Have we ever had to put a sitting US President on suicide watch? I ask this because a recent Washington Post story seems to paint the picture of a post election Trump who seems to be slipping farther and farther from reality while growing more despondent.
"Trump was, in the telling of one close adviser, like “Mad King George, muttering, ‘I won. I won. I won.’ ”
Meanwhile the cruel (and ablest) nickname #diaperdonnie is trending on his favorite social media platform, spread by the humiliating speculation that he is incontinent based on multiple photos showing unusual bulges in in his pants as well as a video where he seemingly loses control of his bowels while sitting with Angela Merkle.
Looking ahead, he can see the legal challenges to come. Publications are tripping over each other with speculation pieces on prosecuting him in Federal court and State attorneys are preparing their own cases. There is no doubt that even if shielded by an executive pardon, he will be hounded by subpoenas, investigations, lawsuits and potential jail time in the coming years.
There is no retreat from the public eye and the public's ire either. The 2020 Republican platform made the RNC the party of Trump. Therefore he has set himself up as the target for all political attacks against the failed policies of the Republican party. The RNC has kettled itself into his brand. To defeat Trumpism is to defeat the conservative cause.
Political considerations aside, there are a large number of Americans who look at the Virus, the lost children, the abandonment of the New Colossus, and have said "no mercy no forgiveness"
Meanwhile, Trump is isolating himself . Casting off long time confidants and advisors for a shrinking circle of those willing to entertain his delusions while all facts point to reality.
The day will soon arrive where there will be no where left to hide from the terrible truth that Donald Trump has lost the election, the respect of the world, and the prospect of a future that is anything other than a legal battle for survival while the public humiliation continues to mount.
With that kind of bleak future, what is being done to ensure he is safe, not from others, but from himself? One has to wonder how someone looking at that future could go on. Is the president on suicide watch? Should he be?
What would the impact on American History be, for a sitting (though lame duck) President to take his own life?
