The American left is not the unarmed band of flower sniffing hippies that so many think they are. I guess that the misconception likely comes from the fact that the Democratic party has often backed limitations to the 2nd Amendment.
But that party is not the whole story, and it's tent is BIG!
If you don't believe me, take a look at the r/LiberalGunOwners Subreddit. There you will see a community of armed patriots who reject the Right Wing Authoritarian energy of conventional gun culture! The group recently crossed the 100,000 member mark and continues to grow at an accelerated rate.
I can only assume that the images of Proud Boys and other Neo-Facist Red-caps flooding the streets and assaulting innocent people while the Republican establishment cheers them on has led many to realize that your best protector is yourself.
I am comforted to know, as Trumpists try to overturn the 2020 election, that Democracy in America has one more layer of protection. 108K deep.
